In this time of social distancing, I think something is happening or maybe it’s the beginning of something new that we’ve never experienced before. At least for some of us. We know there is a general feeling of uncertainty, and sometimes fear, right now. But this time also gives us time for pause and reflection and a renewed appreciation for being together when we can’t currently worship together in-person.
While sitting outside a couple of days ago, I was listening to Amy Grant’s version of the song Agnus Dei, and something amazing happened. As the music played, I observed (and somehow just knew) that the leaves were praising God along with the music. And not just the leaves in the trees…..also the leaves that were stuck in the crevices of the wrought iron patio table sitting across from me. With each breeze they would raise up their little bodies in praise. Oh, but it was a breezy day you might say. But something in me said otherwise, and I knew and was reminded at that moment that He is the Living God. ALL of creation praises and rejoices at His majesty. Would I have noticed that if my life was going along as normal? Nothing bringing my life, as I know it, to a halt? Maybe, but I doubt it.
He knows what is happening around us. And through it all, He refreshes and restores us and can make beauty out of ashes. We can count on His mercy being fresh for us each morning (Lamentations 3:22-26)
